a preacher, in as far as he is a Christian, is to divide Law and Gospel. For he must be a Christian, or else he ought not to be a preacher. Now, any one who fails to attain the knowledge of, and the practical ability to apply, this distinction is still a heathen or a Jew. The forma of a Christian,—that which makes a person a Christian—is that he knows how to seek his salvation in Christ and thus to escape the Law. I wish to cite Luther once more. He writes (St. L. Ed.
